As most writers know, it almost always takes longer than expected for a piece of writing to get published. In the fall of 2019 I was interviewed for an article in MOTHER EARTH NEWS about beekeepers in the Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) program. My bee yard is 1 of only 2 CNG apiaries in North Carolina right now.
At the time I answered the interview questions I was told the piece was slated for publication in the February/March 2020 issue. As we all know, things changed all over the world at that time. The piece was pulled from production.
Now, a whole year later, the article was published. Unfortunately, my quote is about how proud I was to have never lost a hive over the winter, which is no longer true. This past year has been an incredibly tough time for everyone, including the bees. I’ve lost 4 hives since the start of winter. My first winter losses ever. While that makes me sad, I’m glad that MOTHER EARTH NEWS is spreading the word about CNG. (If you know any beekeepers, please encourage them to join CNG.)
It’s nice being on the other end of article writing for a change! Read the article “Naturally Made Certification for Beekeepers…“
