Last winter I spent an unseasonably warm long weekend by myself at an inn in Saxapahaw, North Carolina. I brought genealogy research, books to read, and, of course, my journal. I started writing a story that has become the first in a collection of interconnected stories I’m about to finish drafting next month.
The River Landing Inn is a converted barn that overlooks pastures. Each room has private access to a porch. Every day after a homemade breakfast at the inn, I walked the riverside trail to the quaint mill village of Saxapahaw and had a latte at the Haw River Ballroom, and lunch or dinner at the award-winning Saxapahaw General Store.
The inn and village offered the perfect opportunity to slow down, contemplate creative pursuits, and feel nourished. I’ve decided to go back to the inn later this winter, but this time I’m making the weekend more special, and you’re invited!
Our weekend kicks off on Thursday, March 8th with a fireside dinner, introductions, and social time. Then on Friday, after a breakfast spread provided by the inn, we’ll have a collaborative goal-setting session before our first speaker. Leadership and Performance Strategist, Traci Philips, leads the first session on developing a mindset for powerful creation.
After lunch on your own and focused time on your goals, our second speaker arrives. Helen Moses, President of Command Communication and a Distinguished Toastmaster, presents on the voice of the confident creative. Many writers, musicians, artists, and other creative-minded professionals struggle with telling their story in a confident way. Helen will help you craft our presentation skills so that you can clearly convey your work, express your passion, and gets others excited too.
After more productive time on your day’s goals, we meet for a delicious dinner at a nearby restaurant that sources all ingredients from local farms. Then we’ll end our day around the fire back at the inn.
Saturday is a combination of goal setting, productive work time, and optional breakout sessions. And, of course, after dinner in town at another great restaurant you’ll wind down with fireside camaraderie at the inn!
Our final day, Sunday, March 11th, features a farewell breakfast, goal review and planning, and productive time before checkout.
Only four rooms are available at the inn. A single private room is $679 and includes 6 meals, your accommodations for 3 nights, and everything listed on the full agenda. A private room for two (shared bed) is $899 and includes all the same perks for two people. Visit the full agenda link to register. FYI registration is only open from today until February 1, 2018!
