My goal for October was to write two short stories. Happy to share that I met that goal and started another story. I am ahead of schedule! To help reach this goal, I committed to 4-5 hours per week of writing. Since I didn’t expect those extra hours to just appear out of nowhere, I made some lifestyle changes and adjustments to my usual routine:
- Cut my fitness time in half. I used to exercise for 60-90 minutes, 6 days per week. From now until February (my target month to finish the first draft of this collection), I’m sticking with 30 minutes, 5 days per week.
- Signed up for a month-long productivity class. I’m loving this Systems for Productivity class. When it ends in two weeks I will share a re-cap of the most helpful changes I’ve made as a result of it. I am obsessed with productivity!
- Added more digital ‘dark days’ to my routine. A year ago, I started taking one day off of social media each week. Over time, I’ve gradually built more ‘dark days’ into my life. I’m currently up to 3.5 and by next week I aim to be totally dark 4 days per week. If I would have done that right away it would not have been a natural shift, but making adjustments over time helped it fit. This means fewer distractions and less maintenance!
