Writing Retreat at Bynum Front Porch 2016
Last year’s Creative Connections Art and Writing 1-Day Retreat was a success, so artist Barbara Hengstenberg and I are hosting another one! We will once again host the retreat on the first Saturday of June at the ultra-quaint and historic Bynum Front Porch, just a short drive south of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
We made a few changes to this year’s event. We’ve added:
- A catered lunch. To help fuel everyone and focus on creating new stories, verse, and art – we will have coffee/tea, water, and refreshments throughout the day, plus a catered lunch. That way everyone simply needs to arrive and enjoy. No need to meal prep.
- Art supplies. We’ll have acrylic paints and collage materials for all to use. Plus, we provide a small canvas and brushes–and everyone will take home their completed canvas and brush set.
- More creative time. Some of the feedback from last year’s event called for a longer day, so we extended the day by an hour.
Here’s a collage Barbara made (that I bought and now hangs in my living room) as an example of the type of work we’ll make at the retreat. Everyone’s collage will be inspired by and/or feature written work:
I’m extra excited for this year’s retreat because I’ve been spending more free time on art. I took the open art studio time over the winter to draw. Plus I’m registered for a multi-week printmaking class and an acrylic painting class this June. On the home front, I’ve started a peace pole project thanks to Barbara’s inspiration!
