Although I live in a fairly small town, there are several notable places and people here in Pittsboro, North Carolina! For one, did you know that one of Billy Collins’ poetry book covers was created by a book designer here? It was a surprise to me too!

Last week I had brunch with the book designers at Kachergis Book Design and got to take a look at some of their work. They mainly work with publishers, but occasionally they work one-on-one with writers. Check out Billy Collins’ note to them:
I spent a spontaneous weekend at home with my love and it felt like a vacation. It was Open Barn Day at one of the local dairies and we got to play with baby goats.

I met the owner of a unique wine shop through a business event I attend every month in town. (I’m in the video about the event; you can watch here.) Her space is on a creek and has an outdoor stage for warmer weather. They have seasonal live music and my love and I decided to stop by to check it out. Her space will be perfect for a poetry event and I’m excited to host something there!

We met writer friends at the Fearrington Granary for brunch. (Remember last month our Valentine’s Dinner at their sister restaurant at the Inn? Plus, my photo of their Beltie cow was a finalist in their photo contest last year.)

Brunch!
Fearrington is also the home of a fantastic book store – McIntyre’s.

I actually had time–and the weather was actually nice enough!–to read in my hammock!

While looking at Google Maps the other day I saw a green patch and zoomed in…there is a 275-acre nature preserve in our town! How did we not know of this? We hiked and explored all but one of the trails.

Poetry critique!
I finished preparing my poetry critiques for our meeting this week – and one of my cockatiels likes to help out!
Speaking of pet birds…
I designed the brooding box for our baby chicks. We’ll welcome a little flock next week! Check out my past articles about backyard chickens.
