thomas wolfe memorialOne week ago today over a dozen writers gathered at Mojo Coworking, a bright and chic meeting space adjacent to the Thomas Wolfe Memorial in downtown Asheville. We met for a condensed version of my 10-week Book Marketing course from last fall. Great topics were brought up – like how to market to international readers – which will need to be added to future presentations!

lake james state park

Lake James State Park near Asheville. Yes, #nofilter.

lake tahoe

Lake Tahoe

On my drive out to Asheville I stopped at Lake James State Park. Wow. This spot immediately reminded me of Lake Tahoe. The thick, tall trees felt like the alpine forests out west, and the deep turquoise colors of Lake James made it feel like Tahoe’s cousin.

I also stopped at the Asheville Botanical Gardens to check out the conference center I reserved for Author Marketing Toolkit I host there on Saturday, March 14th.

fearrington house restaurant

One of our first courses at the Fearrington House: Beet Cured Steelhead Trout with Crème Fraiche, Pear & Dried Currant.

A few months ago I called the Fearrington House Restaurant to make Valentine’s Day reservations, but they were already booked. Instead, I made reservations to celebrate Valentine’s early. What an experience! The food and service were outstanding. So looking forward to our next visit here!

pure barre socks

New barre socks. 🙂

As part of my fitness routine, I decided to do 30 days of unlimited barre classes, which started this week!

Last night I went to Two Writers Walk Into a Bar, a monthly reading series in Durham showcasing a poet and fiction writer. About 50 people, possibly more, attended and I only recognized a handful of faces. Poet Kelly Lenox and fiction writer John Yewell brought the crowds! No pic available as the lofty area of West End Wine Bar where it is held was a bit dark for a good photo.

My writing calendar is perpetually full. I’m meeting with another freelancer today, checking out a new writing group, and then off to my poetry critique group tonight! Next week: Meeting with a book cover designer. More on that soon.
