Every time I visit Asheville I tell myself, I need to visit more.

This past weekend myself and poet Bartholomew Barker organized several events for Asheville Wordfest 2014. In the morning we had an intimate open discussion with other writers–our conversation spanned childhoods, first poems, professional careers, Bart’s fascination with collecting dead presidents’ graves, and more. I even learned a new term called “asset mapping.” One of the attendees, Lee, said asset mapping is a way of tailoring a plan for your business to go where the money is at. For example – I don’t write for magazines as much anymore and instead I devote a great deal of time to content creation for the web and content marketing. Now I know how to label it!

We also held in-depth creativity sessions where we dissected a poem at great length and discussed the challenges of performing poetry.

While I was at Wordfest with Bart, my love took Ramsay on a hike to Fryingpan Mountain Lookout Tower off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I was sad to miss this. Fortunately, on our drive back we stopped and had a gorgeous hike to Black Balsam Knob – 360-degree views not captured on camera!

Gotta love Western NC!

I told myself, We need to visit more.
