Through one of my reporter networks I came across a new site looking for monthly contributors of hiking adventure stories and tips for the outdoors. So I queried them. My first piece was published today about my time spent in Maine last summer on a volunteer vacation.

What Does a Moose Sound Like? Volunteer Vacation in Maine

The two-story cabin stood in one of the smooth elbows of the Sunkhaze River in the Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. One would think Maine, known for its moose, logging, lobster, and wildlife would have a natural symphony in its central parts during the summer. At least, I thought as much when I registered for a week-long volunteer vacation through the American Hiking Society. Read more.
